Prior to Surgery
For one week prior to surgery (and two weeks following), do not administer aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), or naproxen (Aleve). Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be used.
Please alert the doctor’s office if your child becomes ill during the week that precedes the scheduled surgery. Most procedures are elective and should be performed in the child’s usual state of health.
A nurse from the short stay unit will call you the work day before your child’s surgery to let you know what time you will need to be at the hospital and will give you instructions regarding no food or drink. Most patients having morning surgery will be required to fast (no food or drink) after midnight, the night prior to surgery.
